The Civic Stage Project:
Delivering a Powerful Message
Through Musical Theater

Project Abstract

Our project is a fully written and orchestrated piece of engaging musical theater that features political commentary on democracy through the lens of a high school student council election. We plan to research modern societal issues– the rise of artificial intelligence, America’s position in the larger world, freedom of speech, and the destruction of our environment—personified as candidates in a race to become student council president. We hope that by creating this musical we can synthesize these complex societal issues into easily digestible messages to create an entertaining performance that will reach our school’s community and beyond. After we finish the musical, we are going to present it in a staged reading during the spring of our senior year.

A Little About
Ourselves.

Ethan and Fletcher are two seniors that have been deeply intertwined with the arts throughout their career at Severn School in Severna Park, Maryland. Both of them have been enrolled in the school's commercial music program, Jam Band, playing the bass guitar and piano / vocals respectively. Fletcher also sings in the School's nationally recognized acapella group, Breakwater. Ethan and Fletcher have also been involved with the Water Street Players since their freshman year, their time spent on the stage serving as inspiration for their Van Eney 09' Fellows Project: "Vote."
